DEPARTMENT OF MICROBIOLOGY

K.B.P. College [Empowered Autonomous], Vashi, Navi Mumbai
The Department of Microbiology was established in July 1979. First batch of T.Y.B.Sc. graduated in April 1982. The department offers MSc -By Papers from June 2004 and M.Sc. by Research from June 2005. Department is also recognized as a Doctoral Research Centre and is affiliated to University of Mumbai. The department started paramedical programs viz .B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology in 2022-23 and B.Sc. in Medical Imaging Technology in 2023-24. Department also offers A DMLT course affiliated to MSBTE since 2003. The department has four well equipped spacious air conditioned laboratories with advanced instrumentation like Scanning Electron Microscope, High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Gas Chromatography, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Automated Microbial Identification System [Vitek-2], and Class-II Biosafety Cabinet. Spacious well equipped two laboratories for PG program and Research. The department has been organizing a variety of activities for the overall development of students and faculty members as well which includes invited talks by eminent speakers, Research seminars, workshops, group discussions, training programs. We have prominent alumni as Dr. Parag Vaiyshmpayan Chief Space Bioscience Division, NASA, California, Dr. Pochampally Radhika Head, Division of Molecular Therapeutics, Cancer Institute, University of Mississippi Medical Centre, Dr. Suhas Mangaonker Pharma Consultant, CIPLA Pharmaceuticals, India. Dr. Ajmal Dalwai Molecular Biology Scientist, University of South Australia,and many more. The undergraduate and postgraduate programs offer Microbiology courses under CBCS System. The department has implemented the NEP 2020 pattern for the first year of undergraduate & postgraduate classes from current academic year- 2023-24. In upcoming academic year, department will be starting B.Sc. in Operation Theatre Technology & B.Sc. in Dialysis Technology.
The department caters a research platform for many institutes such as Indian Women Scientist Association (IWSA), SASMIRA, CIRCOT, BARC, Padmaja Laboratories, Vista Foods, Svizera, Maneesh Exports, Farm to Fork Solutions, ACTREC, NMMC. Three teachers are recognized as research guides for Ph. D. degrees in University of Mumbai. The Department has qualified and experienced faculty members with exquisite research enthusiasm along with interest in co-curricular activities of students including emotional and spiritual development by Self Development Program with regular teaching & learning activities. The Department of Microbiology is supported by DST-FIST grant and DBT-Star College grant and conferred with DBT-Star College Status. In 2019, department was the recipient of Rashtriya Uchchtar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA). The department has always added momentum in the progress of the Department and College by arranging DBT, UGC and RUSA funded science projects, science popularization activities, and invited talks by prominent scientists. Faculty members are actively involved in framing the curricula for undergraduate and postgraduate programs under CBCS/NEP 2020 System and restructuring at the University level for both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.Every year faculty members are receiving the seed money from the institute for minor research projects. The publication of research papers in reputed CARE List-2, National and International Journals and patents are also published by the faculties & students.
