Department of Physics

The Department was established in July 1984. The first TYBSc Batch was appeared for university examination in April, 1985. The department offers B. Sc. (6 Units), MSc -By Research (introduced from June 2012), MSc – Physics by Papers, specialization in Materials Science (Introduced from June 2016) and Ph.D. Program (Introduced from April 2015). The department has 2 laboratories for UG program, 1 laboratory for PG program and Research laboratory, departmental staff room & a cabin for head of the department. The department has been organizing a variety of activities for the academic development of the students which includes lectures by eminent speakers, study tours, seminars, workshops, group discussions, training programs for students and faculty members etc. The dedicated and expert faculty members take lot of efforts to improve overall the teaching and learning aspects.

The undergraduate program offers Physics specialization [including Core Courses (CC), Discipline Specific Elective (DSE) Courses and Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC)] under CBCS system. The postgraduate program offers Materials Science as the specialization [including Core Courses (CC), Discipline Specific Elective (DSE) Courses and Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC), Research Projects, Internship and Dissertation] under CBCS system.

Physics department is also recognized as a research centre in Materials Science since 2015 by University of Mumbai. Some teachers are recognized guides for the M. Phil. and Ph. D. degrees. The Department caters to the academic needs of many Physics aspiring young students. Currently, there are six permanent faculty members, two management appointed faculty members, headed by Dr. Pujari V. B. The Department of Physics is supported by DST-FIST and DBT-Star College Status. There are three laboratories for undergraduate and postgraduate students, one among which is exclusively dedicated for materials science experiments. The Department provides research facility in the field of thin films, Nanoscience with amenities for synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials. DBT, UGC and RUSA funded science projects, science popularization activities, lectures by prominent scientists etc, the department has always added momentum to the progress of the Department.

Faculty members are actively involved in framing the Syllabi for undergraduate and postgraduate programs under CBCS System and restructuring at the University level for both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Grants: The department of Physics received funding from Department of Science and Technology (DST) under FIST grants, Department of Biotechnology (DBT) STAR STATUS and Rashtriya Uchchtar Shikshan Abhiyan (RUSA).

Research Projects: Many research projects funded by the UGC, University of Mumbai and College are completed and some are still ongoing. Results of the research carried out in the department are published in many international journals, seminars and conferences.
